10 Tips for Golf Game Improvement

For Golfers scoring 90+ strokes

to lower the score by 9 strokes

These golfers with playing experiences had learnt the fundamental and foundation of the golf swing and are at the stage of mastering the swing technique. They hit more good shots than bad shots. These golfers need to refine the golf swing technique for more accuracy for all golf shot performances.

“The more you practice the luckier your shot performance will be"

 At the Practice Range

1. What you need to do during your to practice sessions?

  • Have a practice plan.

  • Improve golf swing proficiency and ball striking ability for all clubs.

  • Improve the accuracy of Tee-shots.

  • Spent 60 percents of your practice time on short games.

  • Practice twice a week when possible. The more you practice the more confidence you have with each club.

  • Practice and master your precision putting skills.

 Playing on the Golf Course

3. Preparation for game

  • Have a strong game plan.

  • Arrive early and has a good body stretching warm-up.

  • Hit about 100 balls at the practice range before game where possible to get your physical swing readiness.

  • Do chipping, putting and sand bunker shots to get the feel of the day for short game when possible.

  • Set your scoring goals for the game.

  • Do not have an intensive practice session of hitting more 300 balls at range the day before the game.

4. Your Tee-shots

  • Read the layout of each hole to land your perfect tee-shot.

  • Ensure golf swing path and clubface alignment for all tee-shots.

  • A straight long tee-shot is encouraged.

5. Your Fairway shot to Greens

  • Get the ball out the of fairway bunkers to your favorite distance to the green.

  • Hit the ball to the centre of the green regardless of the flag stick position. This is to allow for any shot performance error.

  • Do not try a golf swing technique if you have not succeeded in your practice.

6. When your ball is outside the Greens

  • Get the ball nearest to the flagstick with one pitch or chip shot.

  • Get the ball out the sand bunker on to the green in one attempt.

7. Your Putting

  • Draw straight line on the ball to assist your direction alignment.

  • Long putt focus on distance control to get the golf ball within 2 feet of the hole.

  • Short putt focus on accuracy and ball speed performance.

  • Remember, a 3-putts finished is always caused by the misjudgment and incorrect putting swing execution of the first putt.

8. Your Mental game

  • The reaction to your undesired shot is more important than the undesired shot.

  • Ensure that you do the regular pre-routine swing action to get your total mental readiness and physical readiness for your swing execution.

  • Have a “NO” three-putts Rule on the putting green.

  • Enjoy your game seriously for fun.

9.  Your Equipment

  • Dress up, look smart and feel good for your game. Happy golfers play better game.

  • Play with equipment that fit your swing characteristics and athletic ability. See professional clubmaker for advice.

  • Do not plays with a new clubs on the course when you have not successfully achieve your golf swing confidence.

  • Have a Rule of Golf book in your bag.

10. What you should do for yourself?

  • After your game, make notes on what you need to practice.

  • Play competitively, take part in golf tournaments.

  • Try to play with good golfers more often to learn how they execute challenging shot performance. Learn the Dos and Don’ts on the course.

  • Find something to do for your game improvement aspiration (e.g. do some specific exercises to attain more physical power for your Tee-shots distance, accuracy and consistency).

  • Create an interesting practice game. Practice with friends and challenge each other for more perfect shot performances.

 My personal advice

Find a golf coach that can prepare an intensive training program inclusive of executing challenging golf shots on the golf course (e.g. how to play balls on the hill slopes).

“My goal as a good coach is to teach and train
a golfer to be successful and less dependent on me.”
