Students Progress and Success in Golf

To enjoy the golf game you need the confidence and success to produce your desired golf shots. Practice correctly will always be the avenue to your success. To take lessons and not practice afterwards is like buying a product and not using it to fullest. No coach will be able to guarantee you instant and continuous golf swing proficiency results without practices. Practicing is to master what you learn during your invested lessons. There are many studies into how long it takes for your body to incorporate a new athletic movement. Some say it takes 14 days to learn a new one, and 45 days to replace the old one with the new. Progress with players will vary widely depending on their learning style and the urgency to enjoy playing the game of golf.

Nothing good happens without a plan. To enhance your practice success is to develop a practice plan at the range. The golf game required golf swing technique for long clubs to achieve ball flight distance performance, iron clubs for accurate shots to greens and  precision short games technique of pitching, chipping and putting. Ask yourself what is your practice goals and be committed. You should remember to practice toward your goals and also it will be good to set an evaluation to assess personal achievement.

Correct Practice Makes Perfect. It is not the high number of golf balls you hit or the number of golf swing you perform during your practice. Importantly it is the quality of each golf swing technique you perform that account to your progress. When practicing Focus On What You Want To Happen in Your Golf Swing Technique. That is getting your body, arms and hands to swing the golf clubface to impact on the golf ball perfectly. Focusing will help to intensify and develop cognitive and perceptual skills. You will enjoy the discovery of what is hand-eye co-ordination, dynamic swing tempo and timing. Your intensity of conscious and subconscious mental skills will also surface.

Be patient, mastering golf swing technique takes time. Don’t expect miracles overnight. Instead, look for gradual improvements. Keeping records and charting various performance measures may help in identifying small improvements that might otherwise go unnoticed. Remember that small, gradual gains add up to major improvements.

"The more you practice your undesired golf shots are temporarily
The less you practice your good golf shots are temporarily"
From Philip Ang

Make your practice session challenging and fun. I have seen a high percentage of the golfers at almost any practice range still spending majority of their time hitting balls with the driver and long woods in a personal quest to reach the distance markers. Professionals and good golfers will tell you that this is not the sure way to practice and improve your golf swing and game. Golfers should go to the range to groove proper swing technique and train themselves for all kinds of accuracy and distance golf shot performance. Pick targets at the practice range for shot making to challenge your proficiency. Simulate your practices like playing the holes on golf course. For example for a Par-4 hole, start with driver, then with a iron club follow by a short putt on the practice mat assuming you are going for birdie score on the hole. Such simulation is to prepare yourself as if you are playing on the golf course. This is part of your golf psychology and mental skill training. Remember that the game of golf is played one stroke at a time and each stroke is played with different golf club in your bag at different positions on the golf course.

At the range when you are hitting good shots and performing at your best, do write down how you did it. How do you feel? Where your confidence emerged from? How you prepare your shots? How you manage and engage your attention? What is your golf swing execution process goal. This is a very important asset that you can earn and nobody can take it away for you. In fact this is mental skill acquisition and training in sport science which all elite athlete practice. The term is called your Ideal State of Performance (IPS).

Enjoying your golf game. Golf is special game, it is the only game ever played on the moon. Once you hit your first shot at the start of first hole you have immerse into an endless challenge of your golf game. The thrill and excitement for every golfer is the imagination of their perfect golf shot making from your collective precise distance judgment, golf club selection, golf swing technique, confidence and wisdom. Every golfer will experience good and undesired shots during the game, please remember that golf professionals also will have bad shots except that they make lesser than the amateurs during the game. Do encourage yourself to play with players of different skills. Learn the sportsmanship, flair, mental and physical toughness of the good players that they processed.

Try not to play too many different sports. If you divide your practice time among many sports, you run the risk of devoting too little time to any one of them. To paraphrase an old saying, you may make a reasonable showing in several sports but be a true success in none. This is neither confidence building nor as personally satisfying as being recognized as truly competent in one given sport. Please don’t play when you aren’t feeling well or are preoccupied with something else. If you are not able to concentrate on your golf swing technique and game because you are concentrating on other matters, you will not perform your best.

Stop playing when your shots performance are not get to where they should be. The mere fact is that it indicates your golf swing proficiency deteriorated. The frustration that you experience from confronting constant undesired shots can only increase the likelihood of further failure mentally and physically in your game. Take a break, go back to the practice range to get your swing technique foundation corrected or take a lesson. It is not productive to keep going back to the golf course and producing the same undesired shots repeatedly.

Why CEOs and Executives play golf?
The golf swing and game is an extremely challenging sport and activity. The successful executive enjoys playing golf because the game demands pre-game preparation, shots planning and strategy, judgement and decision making for precision shots, ability to execute challenging shot performances, confidence and composure for optimum outcome on the golf course. These are some of the traits which match the successful executives in their profession. Golf is used in business for networking and business entertainment. The benefits of your client wanting to spend 5 hours playing golf with you is more than tangible. You will be surprised that the better you are as golfer, the more the people wants to know you. People like to be with people like themselves – successful people. So better practise and play good golf before you need it.

I have very high regards for players with continuous persistence to improve their game via practices. The game of golf is to play to your perfection on all imperfect conditions and environment on the golf course - a game that is played to challenge your goals outcome with your golf swing skill knowledge, experience, intellect, and wisdom.

My last note is to remember to practice and play the game for personal value.
